The class reviews some of the biggest engineering accidents happened during the last 40 years. Learning Objectives:
The main objective of the course is for engineers to learn from previous engineering mistakes made either in their own field or others and take a note, while being entertained with the coolest engineering animation and video clips of the accident. The class also shows how the engineers and scientists reconstructed the accident after the event and worked backward to identify the cause of the accident.
The course promotes engineering safety at the work place and public. The class also shows how to do a basic engineering accident investigation or root cause failure analysis in order to find out what caused the accident to begin with.
The class starts with fundamentals of engineering accident investigation and Forensic Engineering. The class starts with small cases in different fields and moves up to high profile accidents in the country and around the world.
All of the high profile cases are in the form of video presentation, engineering animation (some cases) and discussion. The cases have been personally selected among hundreds of other cases for the past 10 years. We cover engineering disasters and catastrophes in construction, ships, offshore platforms, vehicle design, bridge design, gas pipeline, industrial accidents and petrochemical plant explosions.
We also have a 1 PDH video presentation of ethics. After a full day of discussing engineering accidents we always like to finish the seminar on the high note, with one of the marvels of engineering around the world.
Depending on the PDH requirements of the State, in some states with self study credits (like Texas) we will have a one-day seminar and others with no self study credits (like Louisiana), we offer a two-day seminar.
This Class will go a long way toward provisions the hours required for PE credit. The class makes you think of the enormous responsibilities that an engineer has to design safe + long lasting facilities in spite of economic, environment, + political pressures to sometimes do otherwise. The focus of this document is on the foundation of residential buildings. The assumption is that those who are designing and building new homes will be responsible for ensuring that the building itself is designed according to the latest building code (International Building Code [IBC], International Residential Code [IRC], and FEMA guidance) and any local requirements.
